The bible doesn't talk about salvation every being taken away once received. Rev 3:16 states, "So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth." So does this scripture mean you are no longer saved if He spews you out? I love to talk about the details to get into the word and find out what He is saying that I may have missed.GodsFavhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05554226960644567674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8590091.post-1916540190579919082008-10-21T06:11:00.000-05:002008-10-21T06:11:00.000-05:00Hi out there in CA husband,Thanks for the truth re...Hi out there in CA husband,
Thanks for the truth reminders. Yes, indeed, I ex..."We exult in our tribulations." Yes, indeed, I exult. My sweet sister Leslie died 6 days ago. Leslie was the firstborn in my family, and she was born mentally handicapped. She lived on this earth for 49 years, even though she was roughly on the level of a 4
yr old (except that she could read). It is beyond my belief that she is not with us any longer. Weds evening, after we buried her, we returned to my parents' home, where she had died of a tragic choking accident in their kitchen despite their & the EMT's best efforts to save her, and still I half-expected her to come through the laundry room door into the garage, greeting me, hugging me, and telling me joyfully that we were "gonna have a party". This morning when I awoke, for a fleeting second I wondered if it had all been a bad dream. Just as quickly, I realized it hadn't been. Even though I am heartbroken, yet still I rejoice. I praise God that she is with Him now, free at last and safe in His presence. I praise God that He placed Leslie in my family, for her childlike faith, and that she touched more lives than most people I have ever known. I exult over the fact that God is in control and that He knew this was coming. And I trust Him, that He will do some mighty work in my family through this terrible loss. Please pray for my parents, that God will keep satan from them, and that He will complete the good work He has begun in their hearts. People drove and flew in from far and wide to attend Leslie's memorial service. It was like none I have ever seen. Her friends led us in singing some of her favorite songs: I've got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down in my Heart, This Little Light of Mine, and Jesus Loves You. I will treasure all of that in my heart forever. The Latin root of exult means to dance. I had to laugh when I read that, because nobody danced like Leslie! I can't wait to see her again. Thank you for this good Word to us, Gerry. This is a great reminder to daily concentrate our efforts where they need to be. A true call to wake us up and put our priorities in order-our children. If we do not teach them, someone else will. It is definitely quite i...Thanks for your comments. It is definitely quite important to not neglect the physical and emotional needs of our parents. Too many parents are physically taken care of in nursing homes but are emotionally abandoned. It is great that you are concerned with meeting the emotional needs of your parents.

Our perspectives and understanding will change as we go through life. It might be interesting for each of us to discuss our understanding of the biblical concept of honoring one's parents with our parents. I suspect that meeting physical needs while communicating disrespect will not be perceived as honor. But, if children are sensitive to their parent's emotional needs then disrespect will not be a problem.

Ham's descendants were cursed because he took pleasure in seeing his father's nakedness and made a joke out of it. They were cursed because of embracing Ham's disrespect and rejection of Noah's values. Ham had apparently taught these bad attitudes to his own son Canaan. Now, Ham was communicating that wrong attitude to his brothers: Shem and Japheth. Canaan was not cursed by Noah's words. Rather Noah was just stating the facts. Canaan would be cursed because he had acquired Ham's values of being self-centered and self-seeking. Ultimately, multi-generational blessing flows through men who are God fearing, God centered and God seeking.GBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14572425061198820077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8590091.post-51085772849561358832007-04-02T07:40:00.000-05:002007-04-02T07:40:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.GBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14572425061198820077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8590091.post-40928187611846606382007-03-30T22:59:00.000-05:002007-03-30T22:59:00.000-05:00I struggle a bit with the interpretation of "honor...I struggle a bit with the interpretation of "honoring" in the blog. I believe honoring has more to do with ensuring your parents needs are met. For example, Ham, the son of Noah, was cursed because he didn't honor his father. Instead of protecting Noah's dignity/reputation by "covering" him as his other two sons did, he gossiped about it. In today's world, honoring one's parents might involve caring for them as they age, offering help, providing necessities, etc.

The view point that honoring has more to do with physical needs is supported in mathew 15, the verse referenced in the blog. Jesus was rebuking the Pharasees after they "told" on the disciples for not washing their hands as outlined in the Jewish law. Jesus rebuked them by telling them they were not honoring their parents when they refused to help them in their time of need especially when they used the excuse that the money their parents needed belonged to God. (This rebuking was all about pointing out inconsistencies in their lives as they were choosing to follow the law in one are but not another.)

I think just typing this email has been time well spent because it reminds me that honoring one's parents is more about being willing to share emotional, physical, and monetary resources with one's parents. Please know that I am not discounting the importance of soliciting advise from more experienced individuals like our parents but I feel the biblical concept of honoring one's parents has a different meaning.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8590091.post-33854408001541625672007-03-27T22:40:00.000-05:002007-03-27T22:40:00.000-05:00The child training course, "Love and Logic", speak...The child training course, "Love and Logic", speaks of "SLO's". An SLO is a "Significant Learning Opportunity". These occur when children or adults get to learn from the consequences of their wrong choices. I seem to have many SLO's. In fact, I have more than I really want.

Parents are supposed to help their children learn from SLO's as early as possible because an SLO at a young age is usually much, much less expensive or damaging than at later ages. The older we get the more an SLO can cost in time, money, health or relationships.

Hopefully, you don't find me throwing myself across the path of our children trying to save them from wrong decisions. If they ask my counsel, I'm glad to offer it. Most of us don't want to ask our parents for advice. However, in the past couple of years I have asked my Dad for his counsel on a couple of major decisions. But, as I said, I have more SLO's than I want already and if he has some ideas that might help avoid another SLO then I'm all for hearing it. Of course, I don't have to take his advice but I certainly wanted to hear it for those particular decisions. Since I'm nearly 60 and my Dad is almost 84, I may not get to seek his counsel much longer so I better take advantage of it while I can. Anyone who wants additional SLO's can have some of mine. :-)

Another way to get more SLO's is to ignore our heavenly father's guidance and wisdom as revealed in His Word and through His Spirit. Sometimes a failure to respect our earthly parents and their counsel can be an indication of self-focus, self-as-king and a resulting lack of interest in our heavenly father's counsel and wisdom. Some people may really appreciate a good SLO. They make for interesting articles. But, I personally prefer positive consequences and experiences.GBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14572425061198820077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8590091.post-19123933576887463302007-03-27T21:55:00.000-05:002007-03-27T21:55:00.000-05:00Have you considered that it is in God's plan / des...Have you considered that it is in God's plan / design that we take the "wrong" road so we then learn from it and gain wisdom? Advise from others is simply knowledge...Wisdom is gained from experience.

Also, I believe that one can honor his/her parents and still not follow their advise.

Lastly, sports cars and dreams of a certain type of career are all ok. Sometimes having debt teaches us how great it is to be debt free. In other words, it's about learning from the journey rather than trying to shortcut it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
